Rare and Special Materials that Require Permission for Access
IUCAT Displays:
Vault
- Type of material: Rare and special materials in all formats
- Where found: These items are stored in the rare book vault on the ground floor of the Music Library and must be retrieved by library staff for patrons who have special permission to use them.
- How to access:
- Use IUCAT to find the call number or "temporary control number" of the item you wish to use.
- Print a copy of the IUCAT record that contains the author/composer, title, IUCAT location, and call number.
- Ask the desk attendant at the Circulation Desk to refer you to Michael
Fling, Collection Development Librarian (M275A), to discuss your request to use
the materials.
- If you receive permission, return to the circulation desk with your signed
request. The item will be retrieved for you within 30 minutes and held for
you until the end of the day. You may use the materials in the Reference
Reading Area for two hours.
- Loan periods:
- Michael Fling, Collection Development Librarian, will set the guidelines for use of the materials, including permission to photocopy. Generally the materials may be used in the Reference Reading Area of the Cook Music Library for two hours.
