Detailed contents analysis has been made of the notes for composers Bach through Beethoven, roughly one-third of the collection.

This resource was developed in stages over a number of years. The initial sorting and inventory was done by an unknown former student of Prof. Herford. Other individuals created a database of the contents using dBase IV. Jan Harrington, Professor of Choral Music at Indiana University, also worked with the collection.

Laurel Carter, a graduate student in the Music Librarianship program, provided detailed contents analysis for the notes from the Bach through Beethoven portion of the collection and created these Web pages. This work was accomplished in a Seminar on Music Librarianship, offered by the librarians of the William and Gayle Cook Music Library at Indiana University, Spring 1996. Laurel Carter has a B.A. in Music from Earlham College and a M.A. in Music from The Pennsylvania State University. She received her M.L.S. from Indiana University in August 1996.
