I herewith attach a list, including contents, of brittle vocal
collections that Sibley Library is sending to Booklab in mid-July. If
other libraries are interested in obtaining copies of items on the list
(in some cases they would be available only as replacements for brittle
items they already own, since copyright clearances haven't been sought)
they can get them at a 10% discount from Booklab's normal rate (usually
$30-$60) by contacting me before the items are sent, and subscribing to
the BRITTLE listserve cum collective bargaining group.
We compiled the list for submission to Brian Baird's BRITTLE listserve, a
good idea with which I imagine you are familiar. Mary Davidson noted to
me that RLG had tried to work out a similar network arrangement to cut
down on photocopy costs, but networking technology -- and sheer
involvement at the individual librarian level -- was not as well
developed as it is now, so the project didn't come to fruition. Mr. Baird
was quite pleased at the opportunity to make more music librarians aware
of the listserve, and suggested that MLA might wish to set up a
subject-specific sublist for music,
Because the list is so long, I truncated it severely (almost entirely...)
both for submission to the BRITTLE list and for inclusion on MLA-L, but I
would like to have it posted in its entirety in the MLA Clearinghouse, at
least for its month (from now to mid-July) of active life. After that
time, if it would be useful to have contents lists for those binders
collections that aren't accessible elsewhere, I could weed down to those.
I hope this is indeed an appropriate use of the Clearinghouse; please let
me know if you have any alternative or additional suggestions.
Thanks very much!
