Description: DePauw University is seeking an experienced and innovative music librarian to develop and manage undergraduate music library services and collections. Description: The Archivist/Librarian is responsible for the management and maintenance of The Juilliard School Archives. Reporting to the Head Librarian, the Archivist is responsible for cataloging of archival materials (using MARC format); processing of collections; preparation of finding aids; coordination of preservation activities; reference service; and, records management for the institution. The Archivist also assists the library staff with cataloging and retrospective conversion of books, and (depending upon qualifications) music manuscripts. Supervises one part- time student assistant. The Juilliard School Archives is the official repository for the administrative records and historical documents of The School. Formally established in 1990 with the assistance of major funding from the National Historical Publications and Records Commission, the Archives presently contains over 300 cubic feet of materials, including administrative papers; photographs; biographical files on former Juilliard School faculty and administrators; production books; and, several small collections of personal papers. Most of the existing collections have been fully cataloged and processed. Archival collections are cataloged onto the OCLC database and the Schools Innovative Interfaces catalog. The Archives also maintains a database of records management information for the Schools finance and personnel offices. The Juilliard School Library contains over 50,000 scores, 20,000 books, 20,000 sound recordings, and 500 videocassettes for use by current Juilliard School students and faculty members. Qualifications: ALA-accredited M.L.S degree with substantial course work in archival management preferred. Candidates with an M.A. degree in Archival Management with appropriate library experience will not be excluded. Prior experience administering an archival collection. Thorough knowledge of archival principles; MARC bibliographic formats; conservation and preservation approaches; and, automated systems used in libraries and archives. The individual is also expected to have strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated written and oral communication abilities. Music background preferred.
